A video surfaced this past Sunday of a fraternity named Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) from the University of Oklahoma a singing a racist chant. The video is only 10 seconds long but you can basically hear them chanting, "There will never be a nigger in SAE! You can hang 'em from a tree but, they'll never sign with me. There will never be a nigger in SAE!"
When I saw this video I was absolutely disgusted. I had to actually take one of my anxiety pills to calm me down because I was so angry and upset that I could have punched a wall in my house. This is one of the reasons why I speak out on these types of issues. It's because of incidents such as this that my blood boils and makes me feel the need to speak out. So here I am speaking out and I hope you take into consideration as to what I am saying as I have a very radical way of thinking.
Racism is not dead. Majority of you may know this already but there are lots of people that don't get that it's not over yet. They think that just because we have a black president, or have artists such as Beyonce and Jay-Z, or Oprah that we are on a level playing field. Abso-fucking-lutely NOT! When we talk about racism we aren't just talking about the words or discriminatory actions of people that have ignorant ass minds but we are talking about a problem of a larger scale. That is the institutionalized racism of our government.
As times have progressed after the Civil Rights movement, the Voting Rights Act, and Brown v. Board of Education there have been agendas set aside to hinder growth of our minorities in this country. I mean think about it. Why else would we have the war on drugs that incarcerates 1 of 3 blacks when we only make up %13.2 percent of the United States? Why else would there be new Voter ID laws that hinder the voting polls for Minorities to cast their votes in their community even IF they are registered to vote at their respective address? The recent amount of police brutality that occurs in fatalities such as Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Aiyana Jones, Oscar Grant, and the list goes on with Ellipses. Why are more and more of our own dying behind the hands of law enforcement that are supposed to protect us and they are simply getting away with it? There are more questions to ask but they all have one outcome and that is the Government officials are afraid of us. Think about how much money the rich white upper-class would lose if we finally just said, "We had enough of the bullshit," and started to vote for people that we knew would be for us and get stuff done. Leaders that would slowly but surely stop the end of government corruption and control big businesses and started to leave them destitute. It's all about control. And the white upper-class has been afraid of losing that control for years. And that fear comes from the fact that they don't want us to stick it to them like they have done to minorities ever since this country has been built.
So what does that have to do with this University of Oklahoma video? Well it's quite simple. When you look at the fact that most of these frats are predominately white and come from the upper-class background there should be concern that these people are studying to be our future lawyers, future doctors, and future government officials. People may say that the words that were spoken are allowed to be said because it's their "freedom of speech" but when I hear them all I hear is, "The Future of Oppression." If you're willing to use derogatory and oppressive terms in a chant while representing your fraternity, then it leads me to believe that in a near future that your ideology will be swayed to do the same things that our government has been doing for years to keep oppressing minorities. And I refuse to sit down and allow that to happen for myself and my future children in this country.
Some people are saying that this country is going backwards in race relations but to me racism has always been a big problem. It's just that nowadays it seems that its getting the attention that it deserves. Because of impact of social media things like these are being brought to the forefront and are being spread like wildfire, exposing people for who they really are and their ways. It's a blessing and curse all at the same time. A blessing because of exposing people and trying to grab the attention of people to let them know, that things like this are still happening. A curse at the realization that OH SHIT we got a lot of work to do.
I hope this blog post was able to stimulate your mind and think about things in a different perspective. I may receive some backlash and some criticism for my viewpoints but if you really think about it they do have some truth. It was very hard for me to write this blog post as I didn't want my feelings of anger to over shadow the main premise of what I was trying to say. But I think most people will understand where I am coming from. It's just sad that in 2015 I have to be writing a blog post on such a topic as this. We should be farther along than this.
Well anyways that's all I have for now. Feel free to comment and share your opinions here on the post or sin the contact me tab and I will get back to you as soon as I can. Also please feel free to share this blog with anyone. I want to get myself out there and support is the best way for that. Also please be on the look out for my newest venture, "The Miseducation Files!" Youtube channel hopefully to be launched by the beginning of the Summer.
Until next time.
Peace. Love. Gratitude.
